December 2025 Update

Looking back on 2025 we can be proud of many things this year, as well as look to improve things for next year. Thank you to all players, coaches, helpers, parents and sponsors for their continued support.

Our player sponsorship drive has been very successful, allowing us to provide hoodies for all players (if you haven’t got yours yet, contact me) and to pay upfront for our Orkney trip. I’m looking forward to the SRU reimbursing us as soon as they can…

This season our Under 16s won Borders’ Girls first trophy – the inspiresport Under 16 East/West league – and competed well in the National Quaich, gaining an appreciation for neolithic rocks in the process. It has been a joy to watch girls from 7 different High Schools play so well together as a team.

For our Under 18s, the season has been more difficult, with numbers being a big problem both for us and for many of our opposition clubs, particularly frustrating when we have had numbers and our opposition have not, and I’m sure vice versa for them.

Looking ahead, we need to decide as a group how to work. The current situation is not really satisfactory either as players or coaches (or sponsors, I expect), so have a think as players what you want, and what you are prepared to do. Please feel free to message with constructive thoughts. We will be meeting as coaches during December too.

Looking forward to 2026, while the pathway fixtures for Under 18 (January and February) and Under 16 (March and April) have been published on the SRU website, nothing else has been communicated about plans. If nothing is forthcoming, we will organise friendly matches.

As nights are cold and schedules are busy, we have decided that there will be no training evenings as Borders Girls during December. After this, we will resume training on 7th January. If I don’t see you before Christmas, I hope that you have a very happy time.
