Borders Girls' Rugby

There are bits of this website still under construction.  Please stick with us while the final elements come together.

ABOUT US

Borders Girls’ Rugby is an award-winning collaboration between clubs to provide better playing and development opportunities for girls aged between 14 and 18 playing rugby in the Scottish Borders and North Northumberland.

Our Goals :

  1. To make it easier for girls to train and play at a high level while staying in the Borders.

  2. To foster friendships and teamwork between all girls playing rugby in the Borders and beyond.

  3. To enable girls to experience the fun of full-team rugby.

  4. To recruit more girls into rugby.

  5. To enable girls to progress seamlessly to senior rugby.

How it works

For SRU competitions, we enter a single team at Under 16 and Under 18, so that we can play at 15-a-side levels. Girls will be dual registered (if necessary) on SCRUMS with their home club and with Kelso RFC.  Players from other clubs are welcome to join.  Girls need only to be an active member of any Borders club.  The team jerseys (provided for matches) feature the red and white hoops of The South, and players wear the socks of their home clubs, Barbarians-style.

Girls from 6 clubs are currently training with Borders Girls – Berwick, Gala, Kelso, Langholm, Melrose and Peebles - playing "home" fixtures at different Borders venues. Girls from other Borders clubs are actively welcome to join.  We currently train on a Wednesday evening (7pm to 8.30) as the Borders, with a weekly cadence of venue - Kelso, Gala, Berwick. Girls can also train on other evenings with their own parent clubs.

Communication about matches, training, events, etc. is through the Spond App.  Download the free Spond App on your phone. Use the QR code to join, or enter the code EHEWP.

The Heart of the Club

Eilidh Walker

Eilidh was a highly experienced player and coach from the Borders, who was a key part of the group who set up Borders Girls' Rugby.  Tragically, she died before the collaboration got off the ground, and we pay tribute to her every time we step on the pitch.

Our match shirts and training shirts all feature an EW heart, and our end-of-season awards feature a "Spirit of Eilidh Walker Award" presented to an individual who gives selflessly to others on and off the field.

The Eilidh Walker Memorial fund has provided support to women and girls playing rugby in the Borders, including us.
