As Borders Girls’ Rugby second season draws to a close, we can celebrate what we have achieved and look to improve next season. We achieved our first silverware – the Under 16 East/West League – and went on our first tour – to New Tredegar RFC, Wales.
Our Under 18s have struggled with numbers (like many of our female and male counterparts within the east region) though the end of season exhibition match between Edinburgh / Midlothian and East Lothian / Borders saw Robyn, Sophie and Aurora represent us in a strong win. Robyn, Sophie and Aurora are three of our players with the longest rugby history, representing Kelso and Gala at minis before become Gala Vixens. Robyn has now joined Gala Women as she has turned 18, and we wish her every success. Katie, Annabelle and Lola have found success too with Berwick Black Diamonds, having moved to adult rugby. We wish them all well.

We are super-proud of three of our U16s – captain Emmie, Issy and Scarlett – all representing the East Region, with Emmie and Issy going on to be selected for Edinburgh.
Our Under 16s lost a hard-fought cup semi-final against eventual winners Boroughmuir, with a particularly strong performance from Ruby, who only recently turned 14, and after a successful trip to Dalkeith (winning 50-22) and a bruising trip to Morpeth 7s, we embarked on our first tour, playing New Tredegar RFC (59-5 loss) in the Welsh Valleys.

After our match, we traveled to Cardiff to watch Scotland Women beat Wales in the Principality Stadium, meeting Borderers Lana Skeldon and Chloe Rollie afterwards.
We thank all our generous sponsors (particularly Plexus, Forbes, Kelso Ladies RFC and Nails by G) for their support with this tour. It was a great success, and we are looking to make this an annual fixture, hosting New Tredegar next year.
